The area surround Sumbing mountain has fertile soil, so all of the area until 2000 meters high above the sea level can be planted,i.e. tobacco and many kind of vegetables. Because of the prospectus of the soil to be a plantation many people have lived there. In census of the resident in 1993 was noted down 114,179 residents lived in a dangerous area around Sumbing mountain.
The location of Sumbing Mountain is nearby Dieng Plateau. The fascinating scenery can be found when the climber climbs this mountain. The huge green plantation can be viewed during the climbing.
Getting the top of Sumbing mountain can be climbed from 4 ways, they are: in northwest from Garung, Butuh village (1543 meters high above the sea level) - Wonosobo Regency, in northeast from Butuh village and Selogowok village - Temanggung Regency. In southeast from Kalegan village - Magelang Regency, in southwest from Sapurun village - Wonosobo Regency. As normally to get the top of this mountain need 7 hours in a good weather.
Among the 4 ways for climbing, Garung, Butuh village - Wonosobo Regency is the way which often used by climber because there are many guidance signs to pass the way and also faster to reach the top than the others.
From Garung village, the climber can choose between 2 alternative ways, there older one and the new one. The difference of these ways is the slope. The older one, the climber can find the grade of slope 70 degree in 5 kilometers after base camp. The new one is easier than the older one but the journey will be felt farther.
Before the climber reach the top, there is a stoney way which easy slided. After the climber reaches the top of the mountain, there the others mountain which can be viewed by the climber, they are: Slamet mountain and Sindoro mountain.
